Kaitou JeanneMaron seems like an ordinary high school girl, but lives alone with an angel(Fin) and is actually a secret agent of God.  She fights demons who have possessed people and when she catches the demon, they turn into a chess piece.  However the way she does this seems like she's stealing valuable paintings.  Her alter ego is named Jeanne, and looks a bit different(blond hair as opposed to brown, different eye colour, etc.)  Her best friend, Miyako, doesn't know that she's really Jeanne, and is always trying to catch Jeanne (her parents are police officers).  Miyako's family and Maron live in the same apartment building-Maron lives alone because her parents are working overseas.  One day, they meet a good-looking guy who's moving into the same apartment building, Chiaki.  It turns out he's in their class at school and is also a Kaitou, but on the opposite side as Jeanne(he has a helper angel, named Access, but it seems that they're using dark magic instead of white or something, since he and Jeanne are rivals).  His secret identity is Kaitou Sinbad.  Chiaki and Maron start to have a romance, but when Maron finds out he's actually Sinbad she tries to stop their relationship, even though Chiaki doesn't care.  Miyako liked Chiaki as well, but it seems that she and Minazuki, a classmate who had a crush on Maron, might develop into an item.  Access and Finn are also a possible couple, though Finn doesn't seem to think so ^_^

Part 1 (February 1998): The Backlit Mademoiselle...
Maron is a seemingly normal 16-year old girl.  Her classmate Miyako feels a rivalry with Maron though she doesn't know that Marron is actually Kaitou Jeanne.  She really doesn't like Kaitou Jeanne because she's the daughter of two police officers and Kaitou Jeanne keeps 'stealing' beautiful artwork(this is part of the demon-catching; I think Jeanne corners the demon into the painting and then attacks, changing the demon into a chess piece.  Then the painting is also changed into a picture of an angel).  A new student, Chiaki, has just entered in the same class as Maron and Miyako.  Miyako and Maron have an encounter with him after gymnastics club the day before he joins the class, and Miyako makes Maron promise that she won't do anything with him.
Boy, are they surprised when he walks into class right after their conversation about him.  He also lives alone, in the apartment next to Maron's.  She thinks he's obnoxious even though when she first saw him she thought he was really good-looking.
The next night, Marron beats a demon who had possessed their homeroom teacher, and on the way back home, a mysterious figure tells her that he will beat the next demon and that his name is Kaitou Sinbad.  Marron doesn't know who he is but of course we can tell it's Chiaki.
Part 2 (March 1998): Piece of Love...
In school, Chiaki often seems to make passes at Maron and is always shot down, though he doesn't seem to be bothered about it.  That night, Jeanne tries to capture another demon(Miyako is at the scene here, too.  I guess she's trying to stop Kaitou Jeanne)  Sinbad interrupted and he thought that he got the chess piece, but it turns out to be just a pin with a spike sticking out of it.  This means that the demon is still loose...In March, there is a new character, a student with glasses who has a crush on Maron, Minazuki.  He shows up near the end of this month's chapter, sans glasses, and traps Maron against a wall.  She thinks it's a joke, as Minazuki was very shy before, but then she realizes he's possessed.  Chiaki catches sight of them from a window above, and watches as Minazuki starts to kiss Maron...
Kaitou SinbadPart 3 (April 1998): Fill Your Heart From the Ever Pure Stars...
Maron pushes Minazuki away before he can kiss her, but doesn't know what she can do next.  As Minazuki approaches again, Maron is suddenly lifted to the stairs above by Chiaki.  Minazuki leaves after Chiaki tells him that he shouldn't be doing stuff like that at school, and Maron isn't very grateful.  She tells Chiaki that she could have taken care of it herself and leaves.  Then we see a male version of Finn who's with Chiaki, named Access.
Miyako invites Maron to go to an amusement park with her, Chiaki, and Minazuki, and at first Maron doesn't want to go, but she shows up.  They go into a haunted house-Chiaki and Miyako together, and Maron and Minazuki.  Minazuki(in his possessed self) scares Maron and she screams, bringing Chiaki, who finds her cowering on the floor.
She's really scared and clings to Chiaki as he leads her out, but when she realizes what she's doing, she's a bit embarrassed.  Then she remembers that she brought Finn along to help her transform, so she had nothing to worry about. Later, Chiaki and Maron are in a ferris wheel together, and Chiaki asks Maron out.  Maron thought that he was joking before, but when he says he means it, she tells him that she's sorry, but she doesn't know anything about love, and she doesn't really trust his interest when it happened so fast.
She says if he fell in love so fast, who knows how fast he'll fall out of it?  Then she tells him the story of how her parents met, which was also at an amusement park.  After she tells the story, all the amusement park's electricity suddenly goes out.  Chiaki and Maron can't see each other, so they secretly leave the compartment and transform.  They meet up again at the haunted house, where Jeanne(Maron) quickly ties Sinbad(Chiaki) up so he can't interfere like last time.  Then the possessed Minazuki comes along, and tries to get Jannu, but of course she triumphs and gets the chess piece, leaving behind a beautiful picture of an angel.  She gives a little speech to the now unpossessed Minazuki about how he should have a stronger spirit, etc. and then leaves.  Both Maron and Chiaki get back to the ferris wheel in time for the lights to come back on, leaving the other(supposedly)none the wiser.
The next day, Minazuki is back to normal, but it seems he has decided to openly pursue Maron.  He and Chiaki have a little conversation that sounds a bit competitive(I wonder why).  After school, Maron surprises Chiaki by thanking him very nicely for saving her yesterday when he expected her to say again that she could handle it herself, and leaves a shaken Chiaki behind, who says to himself that she's just trying to trick him.
Part 4 (May 1998): God and the Cross...and a Favour
On her way home from school, Maron rescues a little girl's toy from some little boys.  At home, she finds a note from Chiaki in her mailbox saying he wanted Gratin(?) for dinner(and her to make it).  Maron says Miyako is much better at making it than her, and Miyako invites Chiaki over to have it.  He says only if Marron comes too, which surprises Maron a bit.  She also accidentally drops her cross and both Chiaki and Miyako see it, though Miyako doesn't seem to think anything of it.  They all have to cancel the dinner date when their 'helpers'(Maron-Finn, Chiaki-Access, Miyako-that little man-thing) tell them about a job that night.  At the place, Miyako meets Minazuki, who's there to try and catch Sinbad, and they observe the master of the house(who's possessed) be mean to his daughter(the girl that Maron helped).  He traps Miyako and Minazuki in a hole in the floor, and is about to hit his daughter when he's stopped by Jeanne.  Then he drops Jeanne in a deep hole, which makes Sinbad(just arrived on the scene) angry.  Sinbad sends Access after the guy and checks on Jeanne, who is annoyed that she sprained her ankle.  She makes Sinbad a deal that he won't hurt the possessed man in return for a favour.  In the house, Finn is watching the girl when she notices Access and recognizes him.  Then Sinbad enters carrying Jeanne, and they beat the devil.
MinazukiOn a rooftop, Jannu asks Sinbad what the favour is, and he asks her if it can really be anything.  She says yes, and comments tha he's a strange guy, one moment trying to compete with her, the next helping her. She asks him what he's trying to do, and quickly taking off his mask, Sinbad kisses her!  After a long moment, he says he wants to make her stop being a 'Kaitou'.
Part 5 (June 1998):  He asks if she'll do it for the promise, and she says the kiss was enough to make up her debt.  The next day, there's a rhythmic gymnastics tournament that Miyako and Maron are in, and Chiaki and Minazuki go to watch.  There, they meet a girl, Yashiro, who says she's Chiaki's fiancée!  Maron leaves and Chiaki goes after her and Maron acts jealous, which pleases Chiaki.  Then they find out Miyako has hurt her hand, and Maron tells her to leave everything to her, that she'll win, even though her ankle still hurts.  Chiaki bandages it for her  and then they have a little fight.  Maron goes after him and apologizes, and then goes out to perform.  Chiaki is watching when he notices that Yashiro is holding scissors, with which she's cut other girl's ribbons and also gone through their bags.  Maron still has her cross, and follows an angel who she thinks is Finn but turns out to be Access!  She sees Chiaki talking to him and holding his own cross, which looks like it's made out of wood, and then she sees him transform into Sinbad!
She's cut off from thinking anything else by Finn, who comes to tell her that fnd the devil, who is in Yashiro.  Yashiro attacks her when she doesn't expect it and is saved by Sinbad.  Sinbad asks if she's alright, and Jeanne can only say, "Chiaki..."
FinnPart 6 (July 1998): Sentimental Labyrinth...
For a second, both Jeanne a nd Sinbad just stare at each other, but son deal with the demon who's possessed Chiaki's "fiancée".  Because Jeanne calls out Chiaki's name while he's being hurt by the demon, the possessed girl recognizes Chiaki and hesitates, giving Jeanne time to beat her.  Before she leaves, Jeanne tells Yashiro that she should openly admit her love (to Chiaki) in stead of trying to use tricks.  So th e next day, she tells Chiaki and is rejected.
Now Maron knows Chiaki's secret identity, and realizes that Chiaki must have known about hers from the beginning.  She avoids him at school, but one day she and Miyako are kidnapped by men in black!  Minazuki sees them being taken away, and when he runs into Chiaki, says he thought Chiaki was with them.
Meanwhile, Miyako and Maron are at a restaurant with a man who introduces himself as Chiaki's older brother.  He reveals that Chiaki ran away from home and asks for their help, and Miyako and Maron think that he's there to bring Chiaki back.  Maron gets mad, and the guy says he just wants to know why Chiaki ran away.  Maron wonders if he ran away to fight her, when Chiaki comes in and calls the guy Dad!  Maron leaves as fast as she can, but is caught outside by Chiaki.  She asks if he was lying when he said he wanted to go out with her, if he was deceiving her, and he says, yes, he was, he wanted her to fall in love with him.  He says if she's mad, she can hit him, but she doesn't.  Maron says she was starting to believe in Chiaki, and calls him a liar.  Then she runs away crying, and Chiaki says to himself that he's the worst.  Back at the restaurant, Chiaki's father mentions something about a painting that's there, and looks ominous.

Part 7 (August 1998): Last Night, A Revolution...
Maron runs back to her apartment crying, and says out loud that she hates Chiaki.  Minazuki was waiting for her and overhears, but when he shows himself and asks what's wrong, Maron acts like she's fine and leaves, and Minazuki says to himself that she's the same strong Maron as always.
The next morning, Chiaki's dad is still asking him why he left the house, and Chiaki says he won't return for a long time.  Miyako enters the scene and tells them that Maron went to school early, and it turns out that she was practicing at the gym.  Thout the day, she keeps a bright face and acts like there's nothing wrong, but Chiaki is watching her and doesn't seem to like her attitude.  She tells herself that she doesn't need Chiaki, that she's strong, she's been alone up until now, and she's okay alone from now on.  In class, she goes up to the blackboard to do a problem but doesn't know the answer.  Then Chiaki asks to do the one beside and shows Maron his answers while he's there, but Maron can't do it, and tells the teacher she can't do the question.  Then she asks to leave, and asks herself why she was still happy when Chiaki did that for her, even though he lied to her from the start.  Then she sees Chiaki's dad in the library, and realizes that he's holding the same book that Chiaki did, a medical textbook.  Chiaki's dad says he's happy that Chiaki has shown at least a little interest in following him as a doctor.  Maron says though Chiaki seems like he dislikes his dad, she doesn't understand it, she thinks it's good that he considers Chiaki so important.  Chiaki's dad asks if her parents are different, and she says yes, she's a neglected child.  She says that their work is more important to them than their relationship, and she hasn't seen or talked to them in years.  She thinks that they probably don't think of her at all, but Chiaki's dad interrupts, showing her a book that has her parents' work in it.  He shows her an amusement park in France called the Maron Dome, opened on her birthday.  Maron is contemplating this, when Fin calls her.  She's about to leave when Chiaki's dad asks her if she's going out with Chiaki, and when Maron demands to know why he thought that, he says, because he's never seen Chiaki run after a girl the way he did yesterday at the restaurant, and because she didn't want Chiaki to return home.  Maron denies that, and leaves, thinking loudly to herself that she hates liars like Chiaki, and there's no reason for her to like him.  Fin meets her and tells her that there's a message on her answering machine at the apartment...
That night, Sinbad shows up to a job and succeeds in getting a chess piece, with Miyako and Minazuki watching, without Jannu ever making an entrance.  After, everybody wonders why Jannu didn't show up, and Chiaki goes up to Maron's apartment as soon as he gets home but Maron's not there.  He sees the blinking answering machine, and when he listens to it, he hears:
"Maron?  This is your mom.  Your dad and I...have finally separated...we don't know yet which one of us you should live with, but your lifestyle should remain the same...Good bye"
Part 8 (September 1998): Real Heart...
Chiaki is looking for Maron, and thinks that when he finds her, he wants to hold her and make her feel better.  In a grocery store, Miyako is squabbling with Minazuki when Chiaki comes and tells them that he can't find Maron.  Then Minazuki challenges Chiaki, saying that he made Maron cry before and asking why.  Minazuki says if that's whay Maron has disappeared, he won't forgive Chiaki.
Back at Maron's apartment, Finn is crying because she doesn't where Maron is either, and Access shows up and tells her that if they joined forces it would be easy, but Finn says she hates guys like him, and sticks her tongue out at him.  She takes off, leaving Access to remark on how uncute she is (we know what this means^_^)
Miyako, Minazuki, and Chiaki are making an organized search of the area. Minazuki makes a comment about Maron's parents(he had just found out about them from Chiaki), and how that's probably why she had never been to an amusement park before, that makes Chiaki pause.  He thinks he knows where Maron is, and goes there to check.  Miyako says only Chiaki should go, so she and Minazuki take a pot of tea to wait in ft of the mansion.  Minazuki asks why, and Miyako tells him it's because Chiaki is the only one that Maron ever told about her parents.  Chiaki is on the way to the amusement park(it's pretty far) when he's picked up by his father.  In addition to dropping Chiaki off, he gives Chiaki a book, containing info about Maron's father's work, the Maron Dome, to give to Maron.  Chiaki finds Maron, and says he thought that she would be crying.  Maron asks why he thought that, and says she's still mad at him but she'll declare a one hour truce.  She says she's not upset at all about her parents, because she's the "Muteki Suteki Maron-chan" (Invincible Fantastic Maron) Then she asks Chiaki again why he thought she was crying, and he says because she's weak.  Maron stops dead, and Chiaki pulls her into his arms.  Maron tries to resist at first but then gives up and starts crying.  She tells Chiaki she has always wanted courage, courage to not run away, to face up to her own heart, and to believe in someone.  She says that actually she has the addresses and phone numbers of both her parents, but never tried to communicate with them for fear of them saying they didn't need her.  When she beccame Jeanne, she thought she couldn't live in sadness anymore, but in reality she wanted someone to notice the lonely Maron inside, and asks Chiaki not to leave her alone.  Chiaki says she's unfair, that actually she has several people who watch over her and are grieving for her.  He says it's not fair to tell other people to believe when she doesn't.  He continues that if it's hard to believe in her parents, just thinking about them is enough, and to think that their eparation isn't one of their hearts, but there must be another reason.  He says she's not really alone anyways, that she has Miyako, Minazuki, and Miyako's family that are worrying about her,and also her cowardly, lying rival.  Maron says she understands, that night is still frightening, but being able to dream is goo. She still doesn't know much about love, but she'll just go slowly, looking straight into the future.  She says one day, she'll be able to dial her parents' number.  Chiaki and Maron head home and meet Miyako and Minazuki outside the apartment building.  Miyako hides her concern and acts as if she didn't care, but when Minazuki scolds her she reveals her true feelings, until she realizes Minazuki is staring at her.
When Maron gets to her apartment, Fin is cleaning up, and she tells Maron that from now on, she'll be Maron's mom.  When she tells Maron she threw the notes from Chiaki out, Maron runs out to get them.  Chiaki bumps into her, surprising her, and she asks what he's doing there.  He says he's waiting for Miyako(it's time to go to school), and is a bit disappointed that Maron still won't go to school with them.  But suddenly, Maron asks if it's okay if she goes with them.  Chiaki stunned, says of course!  and Maron runs up to get her bag.  When Fin asks what's wrong, Maron asks herself what she should do.  She's fallen in love with Chiaki, who is also her despised rival Sinbad...

Part 9 (October 1998): For the Sake of Being Loved By You...
Chiaki remembers,a dream I think, when his mother died, and his dad started going out with other women.  He that he hates his dad and that no matter how much you love someone, it eventually dies out, so it's better not to love at all.  Chiaki's father kidnaps him(he's possessed) and when Jeanne goes to save him, she finds lots of life-size imitations of people, including one of herself and one of Chiaki.  Chiaki's father comes in and they start to fight.

Part 10 (November 1998):  I'll Become a Rose, Madly in Love With You...
Jeanne is fighting with Chiaki's father, when she sees Finn and secretly gives her a message.  Then she's caught by Chiaki's father.  In another room, Minazuki and Miyako show up.
When Jeanne wakes up, she's in a dungeon and Chiaki is also chained up there.  He pretends to be badly hurt, and when Jeanne realizes he's ok, she can't help but cry a bit in relief.  Chiaki is surprised and apologizes to her, and then kisses her until she stops him.  She breaks the lock, but Chiaki says he won't come, so Jeanne leaves after punching a hole in the wall very violently(which Chiaki is a bit aghast at) but says she wants to see him again.  After she leaves, Chiaki realizes that he's scared of getting serious with her because he's afraid she'll start hating him.
Jeannestart the fight with Chiaki's father, and Sinbad shows up.  While Chiaki's dad is staring at him, Jeanne...blows up!  When Sinbad runs to her, a guard behind him reveals that she is really Jeanne, and that the thing that blew up was her imitation doll, and that Finn moved the doll because Jeanne told her before.  Then Jeanne gets the demon out of the picture and makes a heartmoving little speech before vanishing into the night.
When Chiaki's father returns to consciousness, Chiaki demands to know if he will still pursue lots of women(I guess this has something to do with the demon?)  His father says probably, and reveals that he chases women because he thinks Chiaki needs a mother!  Chiaki is totally stunned, and then says he just wants his father to keep the memory of his mother close to his heart, which astonishes his father.  Chiaki says he's leaving, and asks why his father doesn't beg him to stay again.  His father says that he should do the thing that he still wants to do, and so Chiaki leaves with Access, grumbling that when his father said that he couldn't say tt he was returning home yet.  Then Chiaki asks Access if he likes Finn, and after denying it for a very short time, Access goes into raptures over her.  Chiaki asks what he would do if she told him she hated him, and Access says she's done it hundreds of times.  Then Chiaki wants to know why Access doesn't give up, because it must hurt, and Access says that even though being hurt is bad, it would be a lot worse if someone else got her.  Chiaki agrees with him, and thinks that now he knows Maron.  He describes her as kinder than an angel and more graceful than a goddess, and that she's very important to him(awww^_^).

Part 11 (December):
Maron is trying to make gratin for Chiaki, though she's having a hard time when he's draped around her neck :)  He tries to kiss her when Miyako enters suddenly.  Chiaki leaves the room and Miyako asks if Marron is going out with Chiaki, which she denies.  Then Miyako asks if Maron is going to give Chiaki some Valentine chocolate(it's tomorrow), which Maron had totally forgot about because she had never given anyone chocolate.
The next day at school, lots of girls give Chiaki chocolate after school.  Maron is watching when she's surrounded by a crowd of guys all asking to walk her home in the hopes of getting some chocolate from her.  Chiaki pulls her away and tells everyone that he's taking Maron home so too bad, and they leave.  Miyako asks why none of the girls tried to stop them, and they said because it's Maron...(maybe she's too popular with the guys?  I don't know).  Then a teacher comes and confiscates all their chocolate
Maron and Chiaki are sitting on a park bench, and Maron gives Chiaki some chocolate.  At first he doesn't do anything, and she wonders if he's happy or not to get it, but then she sees that Chiaki is blushing, because he totally didn't expect to get chocolate from her, and he's very happy:)  He asks what she wants in return, and she says she doesn't need anything, so he says he'll give her something on her birthday.  She asks why he knows when it is, and he says that when he first saw her, he got all her data from Access, and he memorized it.  Maron is reminded that he deceived her, and becomes sad, and Chiaki says that if he hadn't liked her from the first moment he saw her, he would have given up soon, so it shows that he liked her from the start.  Maron asks a few times if he's telling the truth, and when she finally believes it, she looks so cute that Chiaki tries to kiss her again.  He almost succeeds but a job comes in from Fin and Access just in time("1 centimetre!")
It's the teacher, but Jeanne makes short work of him(tying up Sinbad in the process^_^) and is about to exit when Miyako shows up.  Miyako says she has a favour to ask of Jannu...
Part 12 (January): Like A Fish Swimming Through a Sea Forest, For Example...
Miyako wants Jeanne to steal her brother's painting.  She says he's been very strange and distant lately, and though she doesn't understand why, after Jeanne steals someone's painting they return to being nice people.  She says her brother is trying to construct a machine to stop earthquakes, but instead built one that caused them.  Miyako says she knows that it's strange for her, the daughter of policemen, to ask a thief for help, but asks Jeanne anyways, and Jeanne thinks that she knew from the start that she would help.
Later, Miyako is looking for Maron, but the teacher says she was sick.  Maron goes off an a tangent thinking that Maron is trying to go to Chiaki seduce him saying "My sickness...is love!" and generally works herself up to running after Maron.  She thinks she's in t h classroom and bursts in, but only Mi nazuki, who forces her to stay and help him with the class journals(or something like that).  Miyako picks up the school newspaper, and Maron is on the front, because she won at a recent gymnastics competition.  Minazuki comments that Maron does resemble Jeanne, in face and voice and so on, and says that Chiaki mentioned it sometime.  Miyako gets angry and throws the journal at Minazuki, telling him not to say such stupid things.  She says if he says that one more time, she'll never let him close to Maron again.  Minazuki says what about Chiaki, doesn't Miyako worry because he made Maron cry?  Miyako says she worries about it a lot, but since Maron didn't tell her about it she won't do anything, she won't make Maron recall painful things.  Miyako says Maron isn't the type to show her tears, and pretending not to notice them is kinder to her.  But, if Maron did tell her, Miyako would take care of Chiaki, and never forgive him.  Miyako says "Toudaiji Miyako won't forgive anyone who hurts Kusakabe Maron!" and Minazuki can only stare at her, blushing in admiration.  Miyako says she finished the journal, so she's leaving, and Minazuki calls after her, asking who is more important to her, Chiaki or Maron?  Miyako just responds, that should be obvious.
Maron has arrived at Miyako's brother's house, and Finn is chiding her for agreeing to the favour so easily.  She asks what Maron will do if this situation isn't caused by a demon, and Maron says she'll cross that bridge when she comes to it.  She says she'll still steal the painting, but later she'll give it back.  Maron rings the doorbell but no one answers, so she climbs up to to a windowsill, saying that maybe the rosary will react to the painting.   She sees Miyako's brother, who was in but didn't come to the door.  He's talking to himself, saying something about causing a big earthquake that will force others to recognize him as a great scientist.  Maron gets really mad and thinks that if it wasn't for her promise to Miyako, she'd never forgive him, when the rosary reacts, proving that a demon is involved.  Maron is so surprised she slips off the windowsill and plunges downward, and is caught just in time by Chiaki.  They both hit the ground, and Chiaki pulls Maron close, telling her not to make him worry so much.  She asks him why he's there, and he says he overheard her conversation with Miyako.  As he sits up he groans in pain and Maron asks if he hurt his back.  Chiaki flips her to the ground and says not at all, holding her there.  Maron says he's horrible for tricking her, and Chiaki says being horrible like this makes him really happy, and Maron is trying to make him let her go when she's saved by Finn, who shoots a "Finn-chan Beam!" out of her eyes(this is new!).  She says leave her Maron alone, and Chiaki says "Ah-Maron's pet!"  which makes Finn cry.  Maron tells Chiaki to cut it out, and Access jumps out and tells him not to make "his" Finn cry, which Finn takes exception to.  They all quiet down and hide behind some bushes when Miyako's brother approaches, investigating the noise he heard when Chiaki and Maron fell.  He finds and picks up Maron's rosary, which she dropped while falling, and which she needs to transform to Jeanne!
That night, Miyako's brother has received a warning from Jeanne of her intentions, and Maron shows up, dressed as Jeanne.  Her hair is sprayed blonde, with a fake ponytail attached; she used some yukata material for the skirt and a kimono's belt, she has a handmade rosary, colour contacts, earrings, and bt boots.  Miyako mentions that she looks somehow different than usual, and Maron quickly says she's the same as ever, "No Problem!" ^_^   Sinbad is watching from above with a sweatdrop.  Miyako and Jeanne enter the living room, and Jeanne sees her rosary on a shelf.  Before she can fetch it, Miyako's brother speaks up, welcoming Jeanne and saying Miyako is a bad girl for helping her.  Miyako says she's not Miyako she's Kaitou Cleopatra, which makes Jeanne stop in her tracks.  Suddenly they're dropped into another room, too dark to see in, and it starts filling up with water!  Maron is losing her disguise because of the water, and she and Miyako are having a hard time holding their breath.  Sinbad breaks into the living room but can't break the cube trapping Maron and Miyako.  Miyako has passed out, and Maron thinks that if only she were Jeanne, breaking out would be no problem, and is despairing that she can't even help her childhood friend, when a voice speaks to her.  It says that she has a great power sleeping within herself.  Before she needed to be Jeanne in order to be strong, and the voice asks if she's satisfied with that.  It says that her hidden power has been awakened.  It tells her that to be strong, her sleep is ended.
Sinbad is standing helplessly outside the cube when it explodes and Jeanne steps out, with Miyako floating in the air behind her.  Finn happily exclaims that her holy power has awakened, and Access repeats her words in shock.  Miyako's brother runs out, and Sinbad approaches Jeanne.  Jeanne asks him to take care of Miyako, and with a weird look on her face, tells him that she won't give up her job to anyone after all, and takes off his bandanna, causing him to return to Chiaki.  Access says something about it, but Chiaki says this time there was no help for it.  Miyako wakes up and sees Chiaki's face.
Jeanne catches up to Miyako's brother as he's pulling a lever in his lab, causing an earthquake which knocks Jeanne to the ground.  Chiaki and Miyako are watching, wondering help, when Chiaki has an idea.  They float Jeanne's ribbon to her on a mini flood from the other room, and she triumphs over the demon as always.  Miyako is happy to see her brother returned to his normal self, and thanks Jeanne later, outside.  Jeanne asks her why Miyako always chases her instead of some other criminal, and Miyako says it's to clear her childhood friend's name, because everyone thinks they look alike.  Jeanne is stunned that Miyako has done everything up until now for her sake, and before Miyako leaves, asks her what she would do if Jeanne did turn out to be her childhood friend.  Miyako replies, "I would cry." and leaves.  Jeanne thinks to herself that she was with Miyako all the time and never noticed, and apologizes to her in her heart, thinking, "Jeanne is me, Maron..." and transforms back to Maron in the moonlight.  A man is watching Maron, and she notices him too late.  He says "Jeanne..." and she knows that he saw her transform!

Part 13 (February 1999): Maron is worried that eveyone has found out about her true identity, and thinks that soon police will come and take her away, but no one seems to know.  When she gets to school, she's at an assembly and is planning to find the person that saw her and make them keep her secret, when she realizes that the new teacher(whom all the girls think is handsome) is the same guy that saw her transform!  Later, she tries to talk with him but the girl students around him won't let her, and say she has Nagoya-kun(Chiaki) She denies that, when Chiaki pops up and asks her if she knows the new teacher(Shikaidou).  Maron runs away to avoid answering.  She talks for a little while on the roof with Finn, and I think they're saying that though the holy power was awakened in Maron, after that one time she couldn't transform by herself anymore.  Fin leaves and Maron is looking at the sky when someone behind her comments on how cute her angel was.  Maron is so surprised her hands slip and she almost falls, but Shikaidou(it was him behind her) pulls her back.  Maron wonders why he could see Finn, and then he gives her a letter from her father, who he met while studying in France.  Maron is happy and they're chatting when Chiaki sees her from a window with the teacher.  Maron leaves to go back to class, thinking that really Shikaidou is a nice guy and probably couldn't see her very well that night, when Chiaki grabs her and pulls her against a wall.  He asks her again if she knows Shikaidou, and Maron says not really.  Chiaki asks then why were you alone on the roof with him then?, and Maron asks if he's jealous.  Chiaki says yes, and Maron says we're not even going out, and Chiaki says wout then, because I always look at you with those feelings anyways.  He tries to kiss her, but Maron pushes him away, saying they're rivals.  She leaves, and Chiaki calls Access.  Access asks if he was just dumped, and Chiaki asks Access something about him being the Demon King's something(I'll look it up).
Later, Maron is at home, and she thinks that today she almost had the courage to call her father.  She wonders if it was because of Chiaki's declaration, because it gave her courage. She reflects that she really did want to be held by Chiaki, but she doesn't know what to do because they're really enemies. Then Fin appears and Jeanne sets off for work, which is surprisingly uneventful.  Jeanne wonders why and Minazuki mentions that he had nothing to do tonight because Sinbad didn't show up.  Jeanne realizes that's what was missing, but figures it's okay and leaves.  Miyako chuckles that she's caught now, because her escape route ends in a high brick wall.  Jeanne is a bit exasperated, but then she looks down and sees that somehow,' she's turned back to Maron!  She's getting desperate, because Miyako's helpers are getting closer and closer.  Chiaki is watching from a nearby tree because he's on strike(Access won't answer his question) and sees Maron in trouble.  Maron is pulled away to safety but when she looks around, it's Shikaidou that has her and not Sinbad!
Part 14 (March 1999): Have You Eaten the Keshi Fruit, Floating in Kindness?
In the car, Maron talks with Shikaidou.  He asks if she became Jeanne to help save the world, and she agrees. She asks him why he hasn't told the police, and Shikaidou says he never said whether he knew her alter ego or not, and Maron says that he was acting underhandedly.  She asks him why he was there tonight, as well as yesterday, and Shikaidou says he doesn't really know either, but something seemed to pull him there.  He says he's had this spiritual ability for a long time, being able to feel evil.  He says that's how he met her.  Maron asks if he means he can tell where evil spirits are, and Shikaidou agrees.  Maron doesn't know whether to believe him, but he says he'll show her the evidence, and starts the car.
Fin is looking around for Maron when the car zooms past.  She wonders what that car is doing, and is snatched up by Sinbad, who demands to know where it went.  Fin says why should she tell him, and Sinbad says his Maron was taken by the driver.  Fin gets worried about her Maron, when they see the car parked in front of Chiaki's father's hospital.  In the car, Maron asks if there's someone inside possessed by a demon, and Shikaidou says yes, if his intuition is correct.  He suggests that she come tomorrow and find out for certain, and Maron agrees hesitantly.  She feels caught up in Shikaidou's pace, and wonders why she feels so powerless when it comes to him.  Shikaidou notices Sinbad standing outside looking at the car, and smirks at him.  Sinbad looks angry, but the car leaves without Maron seeing Sinbad.
The next day, Maron and Fin look around the hospital for the possessed person.  Maron wonders if it's a doctor or nurse when she's surprised by a boy(who I mistook for Chiaki)running away from the nurses.  He traps Maron and covers her mouth so she can't call his nurse, and tells her to keep quiet.  However, his nurse finds them wn Maron's pager goes off and brings the boy, Zen, back to his room.  Apparently he had drugged the nurse and tied her up in an escape attempt.  Zen tells the nurse to leave so he can have his afternoon nap, and Maron thinks that he's really impertinent.  She wonders if it's possibly the influence of the evil spirit in the hospital.  Zen asks who she is, and when she tells him, says her name is weird and tells her it's her fault he didn't escape.  Then Maron punches him!  Zen doesn't know what to think, and Maron is so mad that he said her name is weird she goe sin for another, only to be beaten to it by Fin!  She packs a pretty good punch for such a small angel :)  She tells him to apologize to Maron, and Maron reminds her that normal people can't see or hear her.  To their surprise, Zen can see Fin, and thinks she's a fairy.  He asks her to let him fly, and is disappointed when Fin tells him she's an angel, not a fairy, and so can't grant wishes.  When Maron asks him why he wants to fly, he gets really defensive and pushed her out of the room.  Maron talks to a nurse about Zen.  His full name is Takazuchiya Zen, he's been in the hospital for 5 years, and he has a heart disease.  His parents haven't visited him since he entered the hospital.  The nurse says if he wasn't sick he would be in Grade 8, and thoug hit's understandable that he wants to have fun, lately he's been trying to escape a lot, and causing her some trouble.  Shikaidou appears and asks if it's as he said.  Maron agrees, and says maybe his sickness is also caused by the evil.  Going off on a tangent, Maron thinks that probably his impertinence and thinking her name was weird is also the devil's fault.  Maron tells Shikaidou that he can't stop her, and Shikaidou says okay, as long as Maron lets him help from now on.  Maron tries to say no, but Shikaidou plays on his relationship with her father, and says that he wants to protect her.  Maron tells herself it's just a typical teacher-wanting-to-help-his-student thing.  Shikaidou says as a history teacher, he naturally has an interest in the fate of Jeanne D'Arc.  Maron gives up, and thinks that his eyes are dangerous, they're so beautiful, like a phantom jewel that entrances the heart.  Shikaidou moves to touch Maron's hair, but is stopped by Chiaki, who tells him not to touch her.  Chiaki clamps Maron to her side, and Maron wonders why he's mad again(she's being a bit dense, don't you think ^_^) Shikaidou says he's just a friend of the family, which is news to Chiaki.  Then Chiaki is stunned when Shikaidou tells him he should stop as well, because nighttime playing is dangerous, and realizes that Shikaidou knows about him.  Maron and Shikaidou leave, and Maron apologizes for Chiaki.  Shikaidou says it's okay, and asks if she's going out with Chiaki, and Maron says no but she likes him.  Shikaidou then says something about this being the only time she'll have for that, but Maron doesn't hear him.
That night, Maron transforms and goes to the hospital with Fin.  She tells Zen(who's sleeping) that soon he'll be better, once she gets the demon out.
Outside, Access is disappointed that Jeanne got to the scene before Sinbad, but Sinbad says he doesn't care(because he just wants to be able to save Maron, since he couldn't before).
Before Jeanne can finish sealing the demon, someone stops her.  It's a tall man all in black(who looks suspiciously like Shikaidou), who says he's the Demon Knight Noin.  He tells Jeanne that the boy Zen is near death, and the only thing keeping him alive is the demon inside him.  He says is she continues the checkmate, the boy will die, and asks Jeanne what she will do next...

Part 16(May 1999): To the Prayer's End
Sinbad says that no matter what, he will checkmate Zen.  Jeanne asks him if he knows what might happen, that Zen might die, and Sinbad says yes.  Jeanne says she will protect Zen, and Noin takes off before they fight.  Jeanne handles Sinbad fairly easily, and watching from outside the window, Noin remarks that Jeanne is strong, and magnificent.  A little dragon creeps out from his shoulder and asks if it’s alright that Noin doesn’t help Sinbad.  Noin, calling the creature Silk, says that though Sinbad is not weak, he can’t really fight with someone he loves because he’s too soft.  Silk tells him not to be so nonchalant about it, but is cut off by Noin grabbing him and asking him smilingly if he’s trying to give him orders.  Silk hastily apologizes, and Noin lets him go.  He brings out some evil charms(those pieces of paper)and throws one onto the picture above Zen’s bed.  He says that now, the demon is his marionette, and tells it to awaken.  Zen’s eyes snap open, and he slowly gets up.  Jeanne and Sinbad are fighting, Jeanne telling Sinbad that Zen’s life is his own, and she doesn’t care about the demon, Sinbad can have it if he just waits.  Fin calls out to Jeanne to watch her back, and Jeanne jumps out of the way as Zen tries to blast her.  She gets up and faces Zen, and Noin tells him to attack.  He does, and Jeanne evades, saying that the demon must have woken up.  Noin says it’s not only that, he used a spell and is using Zen.  He tells Zen to attack again, but Zen has an attack and falls down.  Jeanne tells him not to move, but Zen, commanded once again, blasts her twice.  Sinbad, seeing her lying bloody on the floor, starts to say her name but stops.  He steps in front of her and gets ready to checkmate.  Jeanne asks him to wait, and Sinbad tells her not to get up, since she’ll just be attacked again.  He says he can’t wait.  Jeanne doesn’t know what will happen if Sinbad checkmates while Zen is having an attack, and tries to get up but can’t.  She thinks that she can’t move, and thinks that this is the same as before, when she and Miyako were trapped, and she couldn’t protect her.  She thinks that she can’t forgive this weakness, and asks why Maron is weak.  She thinks that she wants to be strong, and repeats it.  A voice in her head calls her, and she recognizes it.  It tells her to use the holy power, that she can stand up and save Zen if she does.  It is the power of rebirth.  Jeanne thinks that it’s frustrating, in the end, Maron needs someone’s help to become Jeanne.  But right now, she’ll do whatever she can, and admitting her need for help is the first step towards becoming strong.  After all, really looking at oneself in the mirror takes courage.
Meanwhile, Sinbad throws the spike.  Before it gets to the picture, it’s stopped by Jeanne’s hand, who winces a little in pain as it cuts into her palm.  Sinbad and Noin stare at her in surprise, and Zen, as he looks at her, is reminded of Maron when she saved him from the cans, and recognizes her.  He calls to her, and Jeanne turns to him happily, saying that he’s returned(from the demon’s control).  Behind her, Sinbad sees his chance and his spike lands in the picture.  Checkmate.  Zen cries out in pain, and Sinbad leaves, saying to Jeanne that from now on, he won’t let her get any checkmates.
Jeanne tells Zen she’ll get a nurse, but he tells her to listen.  He pulls Jeanne towards him and kisses her!  He says he loves her, and says that Maron was his wind.  He’s loved her since he first met her, and though he didn’t know the reason for her sadness, he knew that she felt the same loneliness as he.  He asks if she stayed with him because she felt compassion for him, and Jeanne says no, because she respects him.  She thinks that she couldn’t even push the ubttons on the telephone, but he wanted to see his parents so much he pushed his body past its limits, and where she worried about how to cross the ocean, he wanted not just a boat, but wings.  She thinks how amazing she thought he was, and says that she just wanted to be his strength, that’s all.  Zen pauses and says she was great, as strong as a hundred people.  He coughs violently and Jeanne is crying.  Zen, lying back, tells her not to cry but to laugh, because he won’t give up.  Jeanne slowly reaches up and takes off her ribbon.  Zen thinks that her just being there gave him strength, and that he wants to give back to her the words she once gave him.  Looking up at Maron, the last words he says are “Maron...it’s a good name.” His body relaxes, and he stops breathing...
Miyako is ringing Chiaki’s doorbell, and she wonders where he is, and where Maron is.  Inside, Chiaki is hanging up his headband.  He remembers what Access told him.  It was already too late to save Zen, too much of his heart had been taken over by the demon.  Being able to see Fin meant that he was mostly not human anymore.  Chiaki wanted to let him die as a human.  Behind him, Access says he should have told Jeanne the truth, but Chiaki says she would have done it herself then, and he didn’t want her hands to be dirtied.  He continues, saying that he doesn’t want her to have any more painful experiences.  Access asks him if he then intends to keep ‘the other thing’ a secret from her as well, and Chiaki says yes.  Access tells him that not telling her will hurt her even more...
At Zen’s mother’s shop, the phone rings.  She picks up, and a voice asks her to come to the hospital.  She asks who it is, and the person says “I should have made you come to the hospital that time...” and then hangs up.  Walking away from a phone booth, Maron looks like a zombie.  Noin is watching from a tree, and remarks that Sinbad put on a good performance, and that everything went according to his calculation.  Now, it’s time for Shikaidou Hijiri’s appearance.
Walking along as in a dream, Maron wonders why Chiaki checkmated Zen, and wonders if she should get mad at him or forgive him.  She collapses right into the arms of Shikaidou, who says that snapping the stem of a wounded rose is tayasui(???) and that he’ll warm Maron up.  Maron once again sees in her mind Zen, saying “Maron, you were my wind.” and the last thing she thinks is like a weather forecast; outside it’s rainy, wind strength, O...

Part 17 (June 1999): Caught Up In a Predetermined Destiny
Maron wakes up not knowing where she is.  Her tears won't stop, and at first she can't re3member why.  THen it comes back to her, She coulsdn't protect Zen, and he's gone.  She raiaes her hand to hit the bed, but it's caught by Shikaidou.  He looks down at her, and says he made her a light breakfast.  He asks her how she is, and Maron trie to recover her composure.  She asks brightly if Shikaidou helped her.  He says a demon's aura disappeared so he went to check it out, and found her collapsed.  He apologizes for changing her while she was unconscious, and Maron says it's okay while screaming in embarrassment in her mind.  Shikaidou has washed her clothes, ad Maron asks irf she can change.  Shikaidou says he'll be in the next room, and exits.  Left alone, Maron starts crying again, and almost immediately Shikaidou returns and enfolds Maron in his arms.  She doesn't know what to do, and Shikaidou says he can't see, and he won't look, but he just doesn't want her to cry alone.
At Chiaki's house, where Chiaki seems to be working now, Chiaki arrives for his part-time job and gets a mini-celebration by his father.  Apparently this happens every time he comes to work.  Yashiro and Miyako are also there, and they begin fighting over him.  Chiaki quickly gets them out the house by saying he's humgry and thirsty, and they leave to get things for him.  During work, Chiaki's dad remarks that he's popular, and Chiaki says it doesn't make him happy, because he doesn't notice anyone other than his true love.  His dad asks if he means Maron, Chiaki agrees, and his dad says he could tell they were going out.  Chiaki gets depressed, and says Maron dislikes him now, or maybe it would be more truthful to say he betrayed the trust that he finally won from her.  His dad says even so, if he really wants her, he can't give up no matter what, and asks Chiaki if he does really want her-as a mother!  Chiaki says no way, Maron is his, and she'll become his bride.  Kagura enters while they're arguing, and hears Chiaki say that actually, he might give up on Maron if it would make her burden lighter.  Kagura surprises father and son by loudly declaring that it wouldn't, and if Chiaki was so low and cowardly as to be so selfish as to abandon Maron and return to Yashiro, Kagura would be very disappointed.  When Chiaki says he never said he would go back to Yashiro, and comments on how strange it is for Kagura to get mad at him, Kagura realizes his mistake and tries to escape, but before he goes Chiaki asks him to go after Yashiro and keep her company while she shops, and Kagura self-consciously agrees.  He runs off, and Chiaki is dismayed to hear his cross signalling that there's a demon in Kagura!
In town, Kagura is driving beside Yashiro asking her to get in the car, but she won't, dragging her groceries along with her stubbornly.  Kagura changes tactics(I think it might be the demon), and tells her that being so obstinate isn't cute, and he dislikes her when she's like that.  Yashiro gets upset, saying she appreciates his loyalty to his master, but he's not being gentlemanly, and he should follow Chiaki's example, which hurts Kagura.  Suddenly, three thugs in a car hit Kagura's car, and they say it's Kagura's fault.  They want compensation, and Kagura, now standing in front of Yashiro, agrees, but Yashiro steps in front and says it was their fault for not stopping when the light turned red.  One of the guys tells her to move and pushes her down.  Kagura short-circuits and speedily takes the shortest guy down with a punch.  The two others turn around, and he calls them scum, telling them not to lay a finger on Yashiro.  With Yashiro looking on, Kagura handily disposes of all three thugs.  After, Yashiro is not appreciative, she despises violence and says Kagura is the worst sort of person.  Kagura says he doesn't know what cam over him, but Yashiro won't listen.  She says she loathes violent people and walks off, leaving Kagura to fall into a depression.  NOt for long though, because Chiaki calls him on his cell and asks him to return quickly as something terrible has happened.
At Shikaidou's, Maron tells him what happened and says she doesn't know whether to be mad at Sinbad or forgive him, and Shikaidou reveals that  he3 knows that Sinbad is Chiaki's secret identity.  WHen Maron is surprised, he says he figured it out because Maron worried about it so much, Sinbad must be reallt importnat to her.  He aks her what she wants to do, and Maron says she doesn't want to be mad at Sinbad.  Shikaidou pauses, and says when his loved one was killed, he got angry at the people who caused it.  Maron asks if Shikaidou wqas able to forget that person, and Shikaidou says no.  He continues, saying in his heart he keeps them alive, and he believed that one day he could meet that person again.  He stares at Maron the whole time, and she doesn't know what to say.  Fin calls her, saying SInbad has sent a warning card, saying he will come for Kagura's painting.
At Chiaki's house, Minazuki and everyone is there.  Minazuki vows to capture Maron's heart by catching Sinbad, and has constructed a trap for that purpose, which Chiaki destroys, saying his hand slipped.  Yashiro is there as well, and she complains to Chiaki's dad, saying Kagura is not fit to be his secretary.  She tells Chiaki's dad what happened, and says a doctor's assistant shouldn't be violent.  She is stunned when he says it was because she was there.  He says normally Kagura hates fighting, and even though he's been with Kagura since Kagura was 10, he's never seen him hit someone.  He evdently wanted to protect Yashiro, and obviously likes her.  Yashiro is speechless and just turns red, looking over at Kagura.
Sinbad appears, and Jeanne, though she hides and noone sees her.  Jeanne thinks that she can't appear, she doesn't want to be enemies with Chiaki, even though Fin tells her to go.  Sinbad says he will take the painting, and Kagura says he won't let him, it's a precious keepsake of his mother, which Jeanne hears.  SInbad quickly checkmates, and Kagura falls to the ground unconscious.  Chiaki's dad tells him to wake up, and asks Yashiro to say something as well, which she does.  She asks if it's true that he likes her!  and Kagura sits straight up.  He stammers out a yes, and says he tried to stop many times since he was Chiaki's betrothed, but couldn't, and tells her "I long for you."(Kyaa!)  Yashiro, trying to act nonchalant, says she guesses she could think about going out with him, and tells him not to be violent any more, not to notice her bad points, and not to make angry faces anymore, which he agrees to meekly.  Then she asks him to be kind, and Kagura looks at her in wonderment and agrees.
Back at Shikaidou's, Maron tells him Chiaki must have had a reason for doing what he did, perhaps Zen was too far gone to save, and says she won't do anything but believe in him.  Shikaidou has been silent all this time, and smiles to himself.  He says she's wrong, having your heart taken over by a demon makes you much stronger, you become immortal, and uses himself as an example!  He pulls his hair and turns into the Black Knight, trapping Maron against a wall.  He says the day she was burnt to death, he became a demon and waited 500 years for her, and asks why she hasn't noticed him yet, why she is captivated by someone else.  He lays Maron down on the sofa, and says "I love you, Jeanne D'Arc...I have never forgotten you..."

Part 18 (July 1999): Cursed Lover
Maron can't believe that Shikaidou is really Noin.  He says his full name is Noin Claude, and that he was a French knight.  He says he fell in love with Jeanne D'Arc, and she with him, and they were lovers.  Maron sits up(Noin was looming over her on the sofa, very naughty-looking) and asks why he became a servant of evil.  Noin pauses and says because the God who left her to fend for herself(I think he means because she wasn't saved from burning) is hateful.
He says that actually Jeanne D'Arc won the battle by defeating the enemy with her swordsmanship, but also by sealing a demon off, like Maron does now.  Noin continues, saying God was a coward. To seal demons and save the world, God only uses an untouched virgin.  Maron is shocked, thinking that if she's not untouched, she can't transform into Jeanne.  Noin tells her he went crazy with jealousy, loving her so much and not being able to hold her.  It was then that he started despising God and let a demon take over his body.  Maron demands to know his purpose, and Noin says the Demon King asked him to come between Jeanne and Sinbad, and once he did that he was released from his obligation and can do what he wants.  Maron realizes wht he means and slaps him, accusing him of using Zen just to separate her and Chiaki.  She's horrified that Zen was killed just because he was close to her, and Noin agrees, saying he won't forgive anyone who gets near her.  Now he doesn't have to obey any god.  NOin pushes Maron back again, saying that he's thought of a way to free her from God.  He says he's going to be rough and asks her to forgive him, and then assaults her...Maron tries to resist but is too weak as Maron, so she calls Fin in her mind, telling her to bring the rosario.  Fin rushes in but is held off by Silk.  Maron grabs Noin's hand, saying she's not Jeanne D'Arc, she's Maron.  She says maybe Jeanne did love Noin, and maybe she is the reincarnation of Jeanne, but she is a different person, and Maron does not love Noin.  Because she loves Chiaki.  Before she can continue, Noin sets a magic seal to hold her hands above her head and starts to strip her, saying that's just a dream, and she is definitely his Jeanne.  He will make her remember...
Maron tries calling for Chiaki in her mind, who is at his computer.  He looks up, but Access is dreaming of Fin and Chiaki thinks it's him.  Maron asks why Noin is doing this, and he responds that it's a way to free her from God.  God can't interfere with the human world, so if he forcefully takes away her virginity, God can't use her any more.  Suddenly Chiaki appears in the doorway and reminds Noin that he told him not to touch Maron.  (Access saves Fin but she just tells him not to touch her)  Chiaki says he thought Shikaidou was Noin, and then looking at Maron, sees what Noin was trying to do.  He strikes Noin, and Noin says it's natural that he did it, because he is Maron's lover from the previous world, and of course in this world as well.  Chiaki snaps and jumps at Noin but is stopped by a magic seal.  Noin then disappears, and Chiaki looks over his shoulder at Maron.  He reaches out his hand to touch her face, but she cringes and he stops.  She apologizes haltingly, and Chiaki stands up suddenly and walks out, telling her to lock the door.  Maron calls after him, asking why he doesn't tell her anything, asking why he wants to stop her being a Kaitou.  Chiaki just says goodnight and exits, leaving Maron to cry.
In Chiaki's bedroom, Access tells him he should have gently embraced her, but is shut up with a well-aimed knife.  Chiaki thinks that he had decided to stop being Sinbad if it made it difficult for her, and tells Access that if he had held Maron then when she seemed about to break, he doesn't know what he would do.
The next day, Maron visits Zen's grave.  She tells him what happened with Noin, but says it's okay and she's still smiling for him.  Chiaki comes, and Maron wants to ease the pressure so she asks if he came to visit Zen as well, but Chiaki walks right past her without saying anything.  Maron gets mad and hurls a water-holder at his head.  Chiaki looks up at her in astonishment and Maron shouts at him, asking why he never tells her anything, that though she understands he's thinking of her when he keeps things from her it's unfair, and she'd rather suffer than see him suffer the same way.  She orders him to stop hiding things and explain everything to her.  She stops and starts crying, saying that she's sad with Zen being gone, and thinking that Chiaki is distancing himself as well.  She cries out that Chiaki's a jerk and she hates him   Then she turns and runs away.  Access reminds Chiaki that he was giving up on Maron, and Chiaki agrees, but says he can't and runs after Maron, catching her in his arms(Chiaki's arms and hands look really big here, oh well).  He says he's sorry, and he'll apologize so will she please not say she hates him?  Maron quietly agrees, and Chiaki says he'll tell her everything. They arrange a date for tomorrow, just the two of them, so they can talk.  At home, Fin is upset at being left behind and Maron asks if she likes someone.  Maron asks if it's Access, which Fin violently denies, saying the person she likes is more kind, wise, and wonderful...Maron comments that she'll understand that she wants to be alone with Chiaki then, and goes to bed.  Fin lies in her own bed and watches Maron.

Part 19(August 1999): Goodbye, Universe-Roaming Fish
Maron and Chiaki are on a date.  Chiaki said he was going to tell Maron everything, but he keeps stalling.  He brings her to an amusement park and they go on a rollercoaster.  Miyako and Minazuki see them and follow, and when Miyako sees them riding together on the merry-go-round, she says she's going home. Minazuki goes after her.  Miyako always thought that she would be the one beside Maron, and the shock of seeing herself replaced by Chiaki was much more than that of her broken heart.  Next Chiaki and Maron ride the ferris wheel, and Chiaki says it brings back memories.  Maron realizes that Chiaki must have known that she left through the window that time, and Chiaki says it would have been obvious even if he hadn't already known she was Jeanne.  Chiaki notices some more 'wounds' on Maron's neck, and Maron says it's nothing, but  Chiaki figures out that it's from when Shikaidou tried to force himself on Maron.  Chiaki embraces her, and asks if she loves him.  She replies that she doesn't know what to think, she's always seen him as a teacher.  Chiaki then asks how she sees him, and Maron looks up blushing, thinking that she can't say what she feels.  Chiaki tries to kiss her again, but Maron blocks him with her bag, and says he always gets this way.  Chiaki stands up, and leaving the ferris wheel, says he wants to kiss her because he thinks she's cute and he can't help himself.  Maron quickly runs after him to catch up, and we see Shikaidou listening to them outside.
Maron finds a winged keychain and decides to buy it for Fin.  She tries to show it to Chiaki, but he's sulking big-time.  Maron guiltily recalls him saying he worries about her liking him.  She gathers her courage, and stops him in his tracks by declaring that he can kiss her if he wants.  Chiaki, embarrassed, says it's ok, but Maron tells him that even though she doesn't know how she feels about Shikaidou, she doesn't want him to misunderstand.  Maron closes her eyes and turns her face up to Chiaki's, thinking that in truth she was a little afraid, in getting closer to Chiaki, that her feelings would overflow totally.  Instead of kissing her, Chiaki puts his hands on her waist and swings her high up in the air, grinning and saying that she's so light, it's like she has wings.  Maron thinks that she loves Chiaki so much, how can she communicate her feelings when they're this strong?  She leans down and kisses Chiaki's forehead, and they hug.  Maron thinks that she's happy...
They walk up to a maze, and Maron runs ahead of Chiaki, saying she'll get a head start.  He jokingly says no fair, and when she's entered he smiles to himself and walks around to the exit.  He places a small black box at the exit with a note:To Maron from Chiaki(it's a jewellery case).  As he finishes doing this, a voice behind him remarks how happy he looks, and Chiaki whirls around to see Shikaidou.  Shikaidou says he's been following them, and that Maron is his precious reincarnation of Jeanne D'Arc.  Since she hsa reappeared he has always, and will always, watch over her.  He won't let any boy take her from him.  Chiaki inquires skeptically who Shikaidou is in love with, Maron or Jeanne?  and Shikaidou is speechless for a second before he responds that it's a stupid question, they're both the same person right?  Chiaki asks if Jeanne was the kind of woman who'd fall into trouble if she wasn't watched, and Shikaidou says that Maron, possessing the same soul as Jeanne, is good enough for him.  Chiaki tells him that Maron is not the kind of girl you can get while considering her a replacement for someone else, and says that Maron is absolutely the only one for him.  In his mind, Chiaki thinks: From the time I discovered you, while I was in that deep darkness, I have had only one aspiration.
He walks to meet Maron at the exit(isn't that where he just was?  Anyways...)and she's holding the box.  He says giving that to her was the purpose of this date, and wishes her a happy 17th birthday.  It's a beautiful small cross, and Maron thanks him sincerely, and Chiaki thinks that he wants to protect that smile.  He catches her in his arms, and seriously asks her if he could become her rosary.  He says he'll protect her always, and asks her to stop being a Kaitou.  Maron thinks that she loves him so much it hurts, but...she steps away from him and apologizes, saying she can't betray Fin, so she can't respond to Chiaki's feelings now.  She tells him that Fin also loves someone, and surely that's why she wants to become a full angel.  She continues, saying that even now she can't sleep when Fin's not there, and until she came she didn't know what it was like to really smile.  Chiaki looks serious, and asks if she knows that Fin has betrayed her.  Maron stops abruptly and faces him, saying of course not.  He says it's true, he won't lie to her anymore, Fin is an agent of the Devil as much as Access is.
Maron can't believe it, and recalls the heavenly wind, and pleads to God that it's not true, Fin wouldn't betray her, she won't believe it.  She runs home and calls Fin, who appears as usual happy to see her back.  Maron calms down, and gives her the keychain, thinking she's glad that Chiaki was wrong.  Chiaki arrives also, and shouts at Maron to get away from Fin.  Then he throws his rosario at Fin, who at first looks innocent and then smiles smugly and stops the rosario in midair without touching it.  Maron and Chiaki are thrown back to the door by the force of it, and the keychain falls forgotten to the floor.  Fin exclaims that it's too bad the game is already over, but she's gotten enough chess pieces already, and now she can return...return to her beloved Demon King!
